" Data Protection " Data Protection Scroll Spotlight ArtSplash Each year one of the highlights of the spring is ArtSplash, the district-wide art show. The opening night of ArtSplash will be held on Friday, May 17. The student artwork will be on display May 17 - June 9, at the Orchard Park Public Library, located at 4570 South Buffalo Street in Orchard Park. ArtSplash provides an opportunity for Orchard Park students in elementary, middle, and high school to showcase their talents and passion for creativity in an authentic presentation. It is a true collaboration between the school district and the community. The district is proud of our students and our outstanding art teachers who help and guide students to realize their creative potential regardless of their career aspirations. Comments (-1) Eggert Elementary Hosts Third Annual International Night Eggert Elementary hosted its third annual International Night on Thursday, April 18. The event offered opportunities for Eggert students and their families to learn about and celebrate different cultures, experience different foods, and participate in cultural crafts and activities. The event was attended by more than 400 students and families. Upon their arrival at International Night, families were able to view a school-wide art show featuring international-themed artwork created by Eggert students, participate in an international scavenger hunt and complete traditional crafts. Some of the crafts included creating Kente cloths from Ghana, Origami from Japan, Rangoli sand art from India, and more. In addition to crafts there were international foods to sample. The menu included chicken empanadas from Sabores de Mi Tierra, sushi, dumplings, and noodles from DAO Sushi & Grill, traditional Indian food from Taj of Orchard Park, and sausage with sauerkraut from Butcher Dave’s. Families were able to visit countries around the world using virtual reality in the library, learn about Taekwondo from Master Chong’s Taekwondo, check out the Slyboots Circus interactive drum ensemble in the gymnasium, and take pictures at a family photo booth. Comments (-1) Eighth Grade Students Visit Niagara Climbing Center Eighth grade students at OPMS attended the Annual Physical Education Field Trip to Niagara Climbing Center. Students get to utilize their climbing, belaying and teamwork skills that are a focus during our Project Adventure Unit at the Middle School. Comments (-1) Students Use Math To Create RC Racetrack City OPMS students in Mr. Bischof’s class built a 1:64 scale city and racetrack for their RC race cars in math class. Students chose landmarks to create and build as a part of the track. They used their knowledge of proportions, scale, geometry, and measurement to take real-world dimensions and scale them down to the size of their RC race cars. Once the models were complete, students were able to drive the RC cars through the racetrack. They had a view from the driver seat of the car with cameras that snap onto the cars and augmented reality goggles! Comments (-1) Eggert Elementary Students Launch Eggert’s Best Students in Mrs. Funigiello’s class at Eggert Elementary launched Eggert’s Best this fall. They offer pop-up stands serving, coffee, tea, hot cocoa, and chocolate-covered pretzels. So far this year, they have delivered beverages like coffee, tea, and cocoa to staff at Eggert Elementary in addition to utilizing their storefront where faculty and staff members come to them to place their orders. The students even took a field trip to the Orchard Park Central School District Offices and had a pop-up stand there! Eggert’s Best provides its students an opportunity to work on their social skills: greeting customers, taking orders, and communicating a customer’s order to their peers. They are working on cooking and occupational therapy skills like sequencing a recipe, measuring ingredients, safely handling food items, identifying ingredients, and assembling the final products! The hot cocoa with marshmallows, peppermint, and whipped cream comes highly recommended! Comments (-1) South Davis’ Buddy Benches Have Arrived South Davis Elementary unveiled their new Buddy Benches alongside the new inclusive playground at South Davis Elementary in December. The purpose of each Buddy Bench is to provide a dedicated space for students who are feeling lonely or would like to make a new friend. When their classmates see them sitting on the bench, they know they can ask them to play. For more information click here. Comments (-1) Official Launch of Quaker Wall Street On Tuesday, October 24, the OPHS Business Department rang the bell” to officially launch Quaker Wall Street, the new stock ticker displayed in the first floor hallway of the high school.
